SolidWorks 2008 Announced!

Realview_2At last the wait is over.  SolidWorks Corporation today officially announced details of SolidWorks 2008 to the public.  Highlights of the changes include an all new User Interface, expansion of SWIFT technology, and all new 3D Graphics.  Packed with over 250 enhancements, the primary focus areas for the user in this release are:

  • Focus on Design, not CAD
  • Reuse Existing Designs to Save Time
  • Improve Their Designs

Details of the announcement can be found in the SolidWorks press release.  There is also SolidWorks 2008 Highlights page with images and demos of the product.

Realview_1SkeyThere are many enhancements to cover.  One of the biggest points of discussion for this release will no doubt be the change in the User Interface.  I will have a dedicated Blog post coming soon to go through all the changes and discuss how they will affect your everyday use of SolidWorks.  Overall I like most of the changes thus far.  More on that to come!

Assemblyxpert_5Selective_openMatt Lombard and Brian McElyea already have posts up with I’m sure more to follow.  I’m sure most if not all of the SolidWorks Bloggers will have posts up soon as well.

Stay tuned…..MUCH MORE to come!

  • Cool, i didn't realize the SolidWorks 2008 Highlights page was up.

What kinds of questions are poeple asking you about 2008? Most of the questions I've been getting where I work have been kind of sarcastic. hmm.

  • Hi Josh,

Not too many questions yet, but I'm sure they will be coming. :-)

Yes…there are always some that will be sarcastic even if it is the best release ever. SolidWorks will probably catch some flack for the new Realview graphics from some folks, but there are some useful things that can be had from that besides just pretty pictures. (More to come later on that…)

Overall I think SolidWorks did a very nice job with this release. The User Interface is quite a bit different but in my opinion has some speed advantages to the current version once you get used to it. I'll elaborate more on that soon.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for lots of content on SolidWorks 2008!
